This is a gorgeous deep chocolate brown glossy lizard skin Mappin & Webb handbag, in a rare design and in mint condition. It exudes quality and understated elegance. It is in the style of a flapover satchel style bag secured by a gilt postman's lock clasp. This design of handbag was a favourite of the late first lady of the USA and worldwide style icon, Jackie Kennedy Onassis. These handbags were sold by Mappin and Webb between the 50s and the 70s and not many remain in such fantastic condition. The handbagis unused. The lizard skin is in pristine condition, very glossy and with no damage to the skins, the shaped handle looks unused and is lined underneath with leather. The attractive gilt clasp is still shiny with no scratches or loss of gilt. The MW initials are prominently displayed on a lizard insert on the clasp. The base, sides and back are in toning brown calf leather, similarly in unmarked condition and to the base, protected by gilt feet. The back of the handbag has a large slip pocket the entire size of the back of the bag, perfect for tickets, invitations etc. The condition of the inside of the handbag doesn't disappoint either. It is lined in a lighter, smoother brown leather than the outside and is quite unmarked. There is a zipped pocket and slip pocket on one side with the Mappin and Webb label fixed above the zipped pocket. The lizard leather skin care card is still with the handbag. The handbag is in a larger than average size, so perfect ot accommodate all essentials but still dainty.
