This vintage handbag is in excellent condition, it has been used but has obviously been well looked after as evidenced by the condition and the fact that it has been kept in it's original box and with the original receipt. It was bought in Richmond from the Miss Rayne Shoe Salon on the 30. Dec. 1963 for £4.9.11, a princely sum for a handbag in the early 60s. The outside of the bag is a dark peach slightly padded fabric with an overlay of gold mesh giving an iridescent and understated look to the handbag which is clean, with no marks from age or use, just a few wavy creases to the fabric, as seen in the photos. The back of the handbag is in similar condition as is the gold leather base and sides with just the odd scuff from use. The attractive decorative gilt frame and clasp are both still shiny with minimal tarnish or wear and the little gilt chain is in similarly good condition. The inside is lined in a peach coloured satin which is clean with no marks or stains but does have some scuffs from use and slight fraying where it joins the frame. There is one slip pocket and the Bective label in leather above it.
This is an elegant and quintessentially little late 50s 60s handbag which has a history, it's been out and about to who knows what glamorous events over the years and now it's ready to trip the light fantastic once again. It would add a touch of understated elegance to an evening outfit but is also sufficiently sophisticated to be worn for formal and 'dressy' day events such as weddings. It is a good size, not too large to be dainty and not too small to be useful and having the box and receipt just makes it a bit more special. Perfect gift for her.
