Phew... must be the longest description on the website, but well deserved. This is a gorgeous handbag, really tactile, in excellent almost pristine condition, really attractive and in an eminently useable size. The main body of the handbag is made from Labrador sealskin (we have only ever found one other handbag, also a Waldybag, made from this type of leather), with the handles and flap being made from a superb quality thick, yet smooth, fine brown leather. There is virtually no wear to the exterior, just a few light scuffs to the smooth leather on the flap but not enough to detract from the appearance and everything, handles etc is strong and intact. The handbag is semi rigid the sides being structured but still supple. The pale tan pigskin lining is similarly in excellent condition, displaying only signs of light use, as evidenced by the handbag still retaining it's matching leather coin purse on a gilt chain. The coin purse itself is a very good size almost twice the size of the usual coin purses and could easily be used as a small make up bag.It is in excellent condition with just a slight green tinge to the interior presumably from coins.The Waldybag logo, the earliest incarnation of which, is embossed in gilt above the coin purse pocket. As well as the usual Waldybag configuration of slip pockets there is also a large wallet pocket secured with a flap and popper on the opposite side to the logo. The lining is clean with not even an ink or pen mark, just a little rubbing along the top of the wallet purse.
This is a gorgeous handbag, it is of superb quality, beautifully made with lots of nice detail and in fabulous condition. It is certainly an unusual and eye catching handbag and the fact that it is made from sealskin, dates from the 40s and is made by Waldybag is icing on the cake. A distinctive handbag and definitely a 'one off'.
