Fabulous vintage 60s iconic black patent leather vintage handbag by Riviera with exquisite gilt twisted rope detail to clasp and made in England. How gorgeous is this handbag! We love it. It is a classy and classic high end quality handbag from sought after British brand Riviera, of the style often worn by the late First Lady of America, the ever chic and elegant Jackie Kennedy. It's also reminiscent (especially with the rope detail) of those worn by HM the Queen and made by another high end British brand Launer. We love the dainty gilt rope detail above the clasp which is echoed in the handle fixings, little details like this are always a sign of quality. It is in excellent condition, almost pristine and made from high quality patent leather. The condition of the patent to the outside is excellent, a few minor surface scratches, which are not readily apparent, to the back and that's it. The stylish gilt hardware is still shiny with minimal loss of gilt (please see the close up) and the rigid handle has no creases from use. The sides are leather and the base is protected by gilt studs. The inside is as gorgeous as the outside, pale soft suede with patent leather edged slip pockets. Although a reasonably small and dainty handbag, it is deceptively capacious at 3" in depth. The leather Riviera brand label is fixed to the lining and the zip has the Riviera trademark zip pull. The lining is clean with no stains or pen marks, only one small greenish mark (visible in the photos) to show it has been used, so it's obviously been carefully used and stored well.
This is a sophisticated, high end vintage Riviera handbag from a sought after brand which is chic and stylish and smart enough to be worn anywhere. A handbag of this quality would cost four figures if bought new today. It would accessorise any number of outfits, add a twist to a little work suit, (particularly the Chanel style as worn by Jackie kennedy) add a touch of class to a smart wedding or formal outfit and is dainty enough to double as an evening bag. A classic that no wardrobe should be without. Add pearls for a timeless elegant look.
