This is a stunning handbag, it is very, very large with exquisite period details which ooze quality. The period details look a mix of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The handbag is in excellent to mint condition and appears to have had hardly any use. The leather to the outside has the odd ding from bad storage and a small pea sized round mark on the front which we have photographed at it's most obvious with the light reflecting it but other than this there is no evidence of wear to the leather at all. Most of the dings should come out with warmth and use, especially now that it is properly stored. A most attractive feature of the handbag is the beautiful leather bow detail to the front of the handbag, this is the sort of attention to detail which sets Waldybags apart from other high end brands. The wide single handle is as new, no wear at all and flips flat against the handbag for storage (a feature I know lots of our regular clients value highly for space saving purposes). Then we come to the frame, clasp and handle. These are in a very rare and sought after silver tone metal (most are gilt). The handle fixings are in a most attractive design and the clasp has an inset of copper coloured metal with an engraved celtic inspired design. These details, together with the long slim design of the handbag makes it a very desirable and 'different' handbag. The inside of the handbag is the signature Waldybag layout with the tri-pocket arrangement and the lozenge shaped leather panel which is embossed in gilt with 'Exclusive Waldybag made in England'. The suede is soft and top quality and free of marks or stains. The whole handbag is quite lovely and a big statement piece, a possibly unique piece we haven't seen another like it.
It is easy to see why there are examples of Waldybags in the V&A and why they were worn by royalty, both British and European, as well as stars of stage and screen. They are beautifully designed, exquisitely made and in their heyday were 'exclusive' ( and very expensive). This is an upmarket handbag and it looks it. Quality and class - can't beat it...
Perfect gift for her.
It is 14.5" x 7.5" x 3"
