This is a beautiful barrel shaped handbag and very rare, a departure from the usual M&W style of dainty top handle handbags and probably dates to the 80s/90s. It is in excellent condition, looks unused and very high end quality, with the suede body of the bag and the crocodile skin rolled handles, edge trim and sides. It is an excellent size for use as a small tote or overnight bag yet still dainty and small enough for everyday use and we love the 'speedy bag' barrel shape. It is in virtually mint condition, we can't see any issues from age or wear. The simple fastening is the litle gilt bar to the front with a crocodile strap which slips over the bag and through the bar. The handles are firm and strong with no signs of use and no creasing, cracking or splitting. The base is immaculate and protected by gilt studs. The inside of the handbag is lined in suede, under the flap in the same suede as the exterior, with a very fine cream suede to the rest of the lining. One open compartment with a zipped pocket and slip pocket to the sides, so quite capacious. The lining is pristine, clean and free from marks or stains. The Mappin & Web name in embossed gilt is on a suede label attached to the lining.
This is a beautiful handbag, in mint condition, from a high end world renowned brand. The quality of the workmanship and materials is first class and because of the colour and the the crocodile accents it looks understated and classy. It looks quality at a glance. A handbag of this calibre made today and sold through M&W would be a four figure sum. A great handbag, would last a lifetime and very useable on a daily basis. Perfect gift for her.
