This is an absolutely gorgeous and rare statement piece of a handbag/box bag, briefcase, tote or overnight bag call it what you will. It is a large caiman crocodile skin bag in a square boxy, pilot's case style bag and made in France. We love it. It is in excellent, virtually pristine condition throughout with shiny black mirror finish crocodile skins, to the front, back and top of the bag, edged in a band of black leather as a 'frame' to the crocodile skins which are in pristine condition with just one slight white mark to the leather border on one side(please see photos). The bottom and side gussets of the bag are in black leather, in pristine condition no scratches or scuffs, look quite unused. The twin handles, which remain firm and strong, are in crocodile skin and lined underneath in leather for strength. The large gilt lock/clasp (which opens the bag by squeezing together the gilt 'buttons' on the clasp)and gilt frame are both still shiny with only very minimal age related tarnish and no scratches from use, similarly the gilt handle fixings. The bag has semi rigid sides so is quite capacious, especially with the expanding base, to accommodate quite a lot of 'stuff'. The inside doesn't disappoint either, it is lined in black leather with two large compartments with a central zipped pocket dividing the compartments. In addition there is a further zipped pocket and two wide slip pockets. The lining is in immaculate condition with no signs of age or use. The key for the lock on the clasp is still with the bag, attached to the central zip. No brand name that we can see but the words Made in France are embossed in gilt on the lining.
A stunning and rare statement piece of a crododile skin box bag/overnight bag which looks über luxurious and would have been expensive back in the day. It is big enough for overnight things (including an iPad) but small enough for everyday use and capacious enough for all essentials and more. It is of excellent quality, made in France, and robust enough to last for generations if properly looked after. It is classic and classy and we love it. Perfect gift for her.
