How fabulous is this beautiful snakeskin handbag! It's believed to be from the 30s/40s judging by the design and materials and made from python skin with red leather feature piping and a red leather button popper clasp, in a very iconic 30s swirl shape. The handle is long enough to be worn over the shoulder. For a 90 year old handbag it's in great condition, some fading of the snakeskin (see the difference in colour underneath the flap) and slight raising and drying out of scales but nothing to detract from the look of the bag. The inside is lined in a dark red fabric which has some thinning of the fabric and marks from age but no nasty stains. Evidence that it's been looked after is the small fabric wallet matching the lining and the original leather backed mirror both of which which fit into the slip pockets and are still with the bag after all this time! A charming note is the bus ticket found in the bag with 4d on it and the exhortation to take the bus if going to the theatre, love it!
An antique rather than vintage item, not in pristine condition but we think it's excellent for it's age and über stylish, we can just see it being worn by the fierce Hilda Pierce in Foyle's War or the cosy Jane Marple. Perfect for period dress and for vintage events but will add a stylish and indiviual touch to a contemporary outfit too, would look fabulous against a cream dress. Perfect gift for her.
