This is an absolutely fabulous Waldybag vintage black silk velvet handbag with matching silk coin purse on a gilt chain. Is is oozes with old world glamour and can be worn for evening or special occasions. It has a gorgeous faux pearl clad lift up gilt clasp and faux pearl trimmed frame (all pearls intact and excellent condition) with black rolled silk handles. The shape of this handbag is dainty and elegant, a bit like a wide dolly bag but with a narrow opening, so difficult to photograph the inside. This handbag has survived in excellent almost pristine condition. The pearl lift up clasp in a flower petal shape is gorgeous, still glossy, with all original pearls still intact and it works perfectly. There are no missing pearls to the frame of the handbag either. The original silk coin purse on a fine gold chain is still present and intact but the lining is discoloured from use (coins) which is surprising given the condition of the rest of the handbag. The slip pockets are edged in gilt , always adds a touch of glamour. The gilt frame, where visible, has minimal loss of gilt. The Waldybag logo, one of the earliest designs, is embossed in gilt on the silk lining of the handbag, but even without seeing the logo one would know that this is quintessentially from the Waldybag brand because of the style and quality of the handbag. A particular feature of the attention to detail of such high end craftsmanship is the addition of the little square 'dots' of silk along the front of the bag at the base as these match the rolled silk handles. The quality of this handbag makes it clear to see why these handbags were worn by HM the Queen and her late sister Princess Margaret back in the 50s and 60s. Sadly there are few of them left in this fabulous condition.
