This is a very attractive large silk scarf on a pale grey background created in this colourway to commemorate the silver jubilee of the coronation of our late Queen Elizabeth II. It is a copy of a coronation scarf designed for Jacqmar by renowned theatre director Oliver Messel for the coronation of Her Majesty in 1953. It was reissued for the silver jubilee in this new colourway. The original was manufactured by Cresta Silks and was in pink with gold accents, this is in pale silvery grey with silver accents for the silver jubilee. It is in excellent condition, no age related foxing we can see and the silk itself is still in excellent condition with no thinning of the silk nor any scuffs but it does have some creasing from bad storage. The scarf has a central drawing of the Queen's coronation coach, surrounded by a gilt/silver/bronze border above which is a drawing of the coronation crown and the intiials ER. Around the outside border and at the corners are touches of greenery and representative flora from the UK, roses, thistles etc. The scarf has a feeling of calm and serenity. It is one of the highest quality Jubilee scarves owing to the exalted designer and the quality manufacturer. It is elegant, understated, timeless and would look marvellous framed and on display.
A great memento of the Her late Majesty's long reign.
It is 34" x 34"
