This is a gorgeous handbag, we love the distinctive design, attention to detail and the fact that it is in fantastic condition. It is one of the earlier Waldybags and would have been one of their top end, flagship handbags such is the quality of the materials and the intricacy of the design. We particularly love the smooth and stylish leather swirl detail to the top of the front of the handbag, an Ionic column inspired design which contrasts beautifully with the textured leather of the rest of the handbag, it looks 'epic'. The handbag has been extremely well looked after and is in almost pristine condition with any wear being through age rather than use. There are no scratches or scuffs to the leather exterior of the handbag, even to the base. The handle is a little floppy but that's because it's very soft unstructured leather, notwithstanding, it is firm and strong. The frame and clasp is in excellent condition, does have some discolouration and tarnish but not enough to spoil the look of the handbag as the clasp is still shiny. The inside is gorgeous. It is lined in fine quality pigskin which was coloured in a stone shade but has worn through age, now showing the original tan underneath. It is very unusual to find a handbag of this age with the matching purse still on it's original chain, an indication of the care with which this handbag has been preserved over the years, so although it has been used, it has not been abused. There are no marks or stains to the lining, it is clean with just the diminution of colour to the surface. It clearly has been used, as the inside of the leather coin purse is discoloured from being in contact with coins over the years. The Waldybag logo, in one of it's earliest incarnations, is embossed in gilt on the customary lozenge shaped black leather insert.
This handbag is a real period piece, it is in excellent condition, looks awesome with the distinctive 'ancient world' design and would be an eye catching addition to any smart wardrobe. No modern designer handbag would ( in our opinion!) be able to beat this handbag for it's combination of quality and style. Suitable to wear anywhere and for any event, however smart or exalted (weddings, collecting the gong from the Palace etc), it's finding handbags like this which validates our enthusiasm for these vintage gems...can't find this on the high street.
