This is a fabulous handbag which is of excellent quality, from a collectable brand and in pristine condition. It is quintessentially a 70s or early 80s design with a popular gilt postman's lock clasp. The patent leather is in a very attractive porosus crocodile embossed design which was very popular in the 70s. There is no wear to the handbag on the inside or outside, there is a slight indentation to the front and back where the handles have been stored flat against the sides of the bag, possibly with a weight on top but these indentations are barely noticeable and should in any event come out with warmth and use. The clasp and gilt details have no tarnish or diminution of gilt and the handles look unused. The inside is lined in a cotton flock or suedette type fabric which Elgee used in many of their handbags, it looks luxurious and is clean and fresh with barely any evidence it has ever been used. There is a label with the name Elgee and 'Genuine Leather made in England' fixed to the lining. There are two slip pockets and a zipped pocket. There are two poppers to attach a long strap but there is not one with the bag, the poppers are a standard size so it shouldn't be difficult to find a long strap to fit which would blend in with the handbag if required. It is not a massive handbag as it is very slimline but it is larger than average and would look great with a work suit.
A great handbag from a great vintage brand Elgee, very striking and attractive, it looks like a vintage handbag but is in 'as new' condition. It would look fantastic for work with a suit and if you don't have to cart your laptop around as it is perfectly large enough for a Kindle or iPad mini, purse, Keys etc and a tiny cache of cosmetics but not much more.
