This is a super crocodile clutch bag with optional long strap, dating from the 80s. It is in a neat rounded shape which is quintessentially eighties in styling. It is in excellent condition and would be mint but for a few minor issues, a diminution of the high shine finish to the front of the bag where it has been carried as a clutch (the palm has rubbed off some of the shine) and on close inspection there is very slight creasing to the top of the flap where it folds over but no cracks, minor in themselves but need pointing out. The rest of the skins are supple with no splits or cracking. The smooth skins are to the front, the more 'pitted' skins of the caiman crocodile are on the back of the handbag. The strap is crocodile, looks unused and could easily be replaced with a gilt chain for a more contemporary look. The clasp is in excellent, untarnished and unscratched condition with the appealing mix of gilt and silvertone which we particularly like. The inside of the handbag is lined in butter soft black leather which does have a few light small marks from use but no stains, scuffs or tears. There is a zipped pocket and slip pocket.There is no brand label but we think it is probably Italian from the shape and clasp and materials.
A gorgeous handbag, slim and elegant, not perfect but fantastic for a vintage crocodile handbag, which, if new today would cost thousands (try buying a new crocodile handbag on the high street!). It looks fantastic as a clutch, perfect for day or evening wear and with the addition of a gilt chain instead of the strap would look right on trend. Would make a lovely gift.
