This is quite a large clutch bag in a thick, excellent quality leather in a gorgeous deep gold colour almost a bronze. It is in excellent condition both inside and out, in fact it looks hardly used, I suppose kept for special or formal occasions. The leather is unmarked, just the odd crease, as seen in the photos but this is the nature of the leather, there are no scratches or scuffs. The top of the frame at the front has an inset piece of leather, a nice touch. The frame is still shiny gilt with minimal tarnish which is mostly confined to the inside of the frame. The inside of the bag is lined in a black silky fabric which is pristine. It has one slip and one zipped pocket and a leather label sewn in with the name Jane Shilton and Genuine Leather. There are clips for the addition of a gilt chain if required.
This is glamorous and classy looking clutch bag from a vintage brand which has stood the test of time. Jane Shilton, the company (named after the founder's wife) is still in existence producing handbags, having adapted to changing markets and business practices over the years. This at a time when so many other of their contemporaries did not manage to keep abreast of changing trends and went out of business in the 60s and 70s. So, hats off to Jane Shilton and hats on to anyone who needs a 'posh' clutch bag for formal day or evening wear which is large enough for more than just a lipstick and a hankie. Perfect for weddings, investitures etc as well as evening wear.
